Three-day G8 summit begins in Hokkaido, Japan. The host country holds a meeting on African development on the sidelines of the summit, and Russian President Dmitry Medvedev meets British Prime Minister Gordon Brown.

The Bank of Canada releases its business outlook survey, the results of which will be published on the bank's website.

Statistics Canada reports on building permits in May. Economists forecast a drop of 5.8 per cent.

Tuesday, July 8

Alcoa Inc. releases second-quarter results. Analysts expect share profit of 68 cents (U.S.), down from 81 cents last year.

Sandvine Corp. reports on its second quarter. Analysts expected a loss of 4 cents a share, down from an 8-cent profit the previous year.

Sealy Corp. reports. A second-quarter share profit of 4 cents (U.S.) is forecast, down from 17 cents last year.

Pepsi Bottling Group releases second-quarter results. Share profit of 75 cents (U.S.) is forecast, up from 70 cents last year.

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp. reports on housing starts in June. Economists expect annualized starts of 218,000, down from 221,300 the previous month.

The U.S. National Association of Realtors reports on pending home sales for May. Sales are expected to have declined 2.5 per cent.

Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke speaks at the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. forum in Arlington, Va., on mortgage lending for low- and moderate-income households.

The U.S. Commerce Department reports wholesale inventories for May. Economists expect a rsie of 0.7 per cent from the previous month.

The U.S. Federal Reserve Board releases consumer credit data for May. Economists expect an increase of $7.5-billion (U.S.).

Wednesday, July 9

Cogeco Inc. releases third-quarter results. Analysts expect share profit of 64 cents, up from 18 cents the previous year.

Corus Entertainment Inc. reports. Third-quarter share profit of 40 cents is forecast, up from 31 cents last year.

OSI Geospatial Inc. releases second-quarter results.Final day of G8 summit. Leaders from 16 countries including the G8, China, India, Brazil, Australia, Indonesia, South Korea, South Africa and Mexico gather to discuss climate change on the sidelines of the summit.

Thursday, July 10

Astral Media Inc. releases third-quarter results. Analysts expect share profit of 81 cents, up from 67 cents the previous year.

Marriott International Inc. releases second-quarter results and is expected to post share profit of 49 cents (U.S.), down from 57 cents last year.

The Bank of England's monetary policy committee announces its interest rate decision.

The U.S. Department of Labour reports on initial jobless claims for the week ended July 5. Economists forecast 395,000 claims.

Friday, July 11

Statistics Canada releases its labour force survey for June. Economists forecast a net increase of 10,000 jobs and an unemployment rate of 6.1 per cent, unchanged from May.

Statscan reports on international merchandise trade in May. Economists see the trade surplus rising to $5.2-billion from $5.1-billion in April.

Statscan releases the new housing price index for May. Economists are forecasting a monthly increase of 0.1 per cent.

The 7th ASEM meeting of Asian and European economic ministers begins in Bali, Indonesia.

The U.S. Commerce Department reports on the trade balance in May. Economists forecast a deficit of $62.5-billion (U.S.).

General Electric Co. releases second-quarter results. Analysts expect share profit of 54 cents (U.S.), down from 53 cents last year.
